McCain's long-standing partnership with Second Harvest demonstrates a shared commitment to tackling food insecurity and reducing food waste.
The company made its first food donation in 2005 and has remained one of Second Harvest’s top food donors. In 2024, we rescued over 900,000 pounds of surplus food together and redistributed it to 26 non-profits in six provinces across Canada.
In response to the rising demand for food assistance, with over one-third of non-profits in Canada having to turn people away, McCain has pledged $125,000 in 2024 as part of its ongoing commitment to Second Harvest’s National Food Rescue program. This contribution alone is set to provide over 378,787 meals to Canadians in need while preventing more than one million pounds of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere.
The partnership with McCain also emphasizes employee engagement, a crucial aspect of the company’s corporate culture. Over the last year through the Chips In initiative, 110 McCain employees volunteered 213 hours of service to sort more than 19,235 pounds of food. These efforts provided more than 19,000 meals to people facing food insecurity. By encouraging employees to volunteer, McCain fosters a culture of social responsibility that extends beyond financial contributions.
“We are proud to support Second Harvest, a key player in the fight against food insecurity in Canada. Their efficiency, outside the box thinking and commitment to feeding Canadians are perfectly aligned with our values at McCain Foods,” said Audrey Leduc, Director Planet-Friendly Practices NA.
Through financial support, employee engagement and sustainable practices, McCain not only addresses immediate needs but also invests in the long-term health of communities and the planet. We are thrilled to work alongside the company and see the significant progress it’s made on its sustainability journey.
